Mrs. Orvis

Welcome to the 2020/2021 School Year!

7th & 8th Grade Humanities

Hello! My name is Amy Orvis. I absolutely love what I do, and am honored to be your child's teacher!

I have been teaching Montessori for 29 years. The first three years were at a private Montessori school, and the last 26 have been with this program. I taught 1st-3rd grade for 15 years, 4th-6th grade for six years, and this is my eighth year teaching 7th-8th grade.

Humanities includes the teaching of reading, literature, writing, speech, research skills, listening, discussion skills, language arts, and social studies. Much of our work is also tied to community service, cultivating compassion, self-esteem, team-work, communication skills, and character development.

I believe that the parent-teacher-child triangle is crucial and am hoping this web site will be one tool which will be helpful toward that end.

Please also read the cover letter in the planner each trimester to find out what we'll be studying and check (and sign) your child's weekly reflection page in the planner each weekend. At times there will be comments from myself or Mr. Holden in addition to your child's reflection and their notes as to overdue work that should be completed that weekend. The planner is one of our main ways of keeping you current on your child's progress. The first planner is orange and will be coming home on September 14th :)

I will also email or call you with concerns that are larger than those that can be addressed in the planner, or are of a recurring nature. Please feel free to contact me any time via email at amy.orvis@rps205.com

On a personal note, I am married, have two children, a son-in-law, and three grandsons (one who just turned one on September 1st!) Besides teaching, my other passions include bike riding, reading, writing, spending time with my grandsons, listening to worship music, being with dogs, kayaking, swimming (especially in a nice clean lake), and gardening/landscaping.

I am addicted to pulling weeds and try to refrain from pulling them at other people's houses or in public areas (can't say I'm always successful).

I look forward to a wonderful school year!
